How do Discord DMs work?
Last verified October 18, 2026
Once your team's server has the Robolyst bot, you can get your own notifications as Discord DMs. Link Discord on your account page, join the team server, then press Send test DM under My Notifications → Discord DMs and tick the events you want.
Discord DMs carry notifications meant for you personally: a task assigned to you, a comment on a task you're involved in, your order being approved. Team-wide news, like a new announcement or a meeting being scheduled, goes to the team's Discord channels and never to a DM. In the event list those rows show a dash in the Discord column.
Switch DMs on
- On your account page, press Link Discord in the Discord panel and approve it in Discord. This doesn't change how you sign in.
- Make sure you're in your team's Discord server. The bot can only message people it shares a server with. If you aren't in yet, the account page shows a Join button with the team's invite.
- Open My Notifications and find the Discord DMs panel.
- Press Send test DM. If it arrives, the panel shows "Sending to" your Discord name and the date it was verified.
- In the event list below, tick the Discord box on each event you want as a DM. The boxes stay greyed out until a test has gone through.
What the panel tells you
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| No Discord account linked | Link Discord on your account page |
| Your team hasn't connected a Discord server | Ask someone who manages settings to connect the bot |
| You're not in your team's server | Join the server, then send a test |
| Send a test to switch DMs on | Press Send test DM |
| Discord DMs are switched off | Read the reason shown, fix it, press Try again |
Find your cause fast
- "Discord is refusing our messages." Your Discord privacy settings block DMs from server members. In Discord, open Settings → Content & Social → Direct Messages and allow DMs from server members, then press Try again.
- "You're not in a Discord server the Robolyst bot is in." You left the team server, or never joined. Join it and try again.
After either of these, Robolyst stops trying to DM you until a test succeeds again, so nothing gets lost quietly in between.
Quiet hours and Do not disturb
Do not disturb silences Discord DMs along with email and push. Quiet hours hold DMs overnight and send them as one summary when quiet hours end. Both are on the same My Notifications page.
Team defaults
Leads with Manage settings can tick Discord DM as a default for events on Notification defaults. That column only appears once the bot is connected, and it still only reaches members who have linked and passed a test. Anyone who set their own preference keeps it.
