How do I claim my team?

Last verified October 18, 2026

Go to /claim, enter your FTC team number and click Claim team. That creates your team's group with you as Owner; verifying the number afterwards is what unlocks the public profile, website and sponsors.

Claim it from the claim page

  1. Open /claim and type your team number, then click Find.
  2. If you're signed out, click Sign in to claim and sign in with GitHub, Google or an emailed sign-in link.
  3. Check the Group name (it's prefilled from FIRST's record when we have one), then click Claim team #1234.

The group is locked to that team number and you become its Owner. You're taken straight to Team Verification in Settings so you can verify next. The Overview page has a Set up your team card that walks you through the rest.

You can also start from the sign-in badge: pick Program, enter the Team number and a Team name, then click Create the team. Programs other than FTC (FRC, FLL, VEX, or Other with no number) work the same way, but only FTC teams can verify.

What the claim page might tell you

MessageWhat it meansWhat to do
Already claimedAnother group verified this number and manages its profile.Ask someone on that team to invite you from their Members page.
A group already exists for this numberSomeone created a group but never verified it.Ask whoever made it for a join link. If it isn't your team's, use /contact.
No FTC team on recordThe number isn't in the FTC roster we hold.Check the number for typos.

If you try to create a team whose number already has a group, you'll get an Ask to join button. That sends a request to the people who manage that team's members.

Claiming is not the same as verifying

A claimed but unverified group works fully as a private workspace. Verifying proves you control the FTC team record, and it's what gives your group the team's public profile, website and sponsors, plus the referral link and bolts. Until you verify, you can still change the program and team number in Settings.
