How do I scout teams before an event?
Last verified October 18, 2026
Open the event in Scouting as soon as it's listed. The roster, each team's season robot sheet, and their Season OPR from other events this season are all there before the first match, and your notes carry across the season.
Why before the event is different
Rank, win-loss record and event OPR stay blank until qualification matches start. Before that, the useful data is what teams did at their other events this season and what they've said about their own robots.
Where to look
- Open your event in Scouting. It's listed as soon as FIRST shows your team as registered.
- Go to the Teams tab for the roster. Teams appear once FIRST publishes who registered.
- Open the shared report from This event (Open the shared report →), or from the event page's Scouting tab.
On the shared report, look at these:
- Season OPR: a team's OPR blended across its other events this season, weighted by how many matches it played. Hover it to see how many events it covers.
- Elsewhere this season: open a team's row to see its results event by event.
- Pit sheet answers: if a team filled in its season robot sheet, those answers show here before the event, marked as coming from the season profile.
Each team's public page (click its number) has its full season history too.
Write it down now
Star the teams you care about and write notes on the Teams tab. Notes are kept per team for the whole season, so anything you write before the event is still there during it, and at your next event. Starred teams also collect on the Watchlist.
The picklist works before the event too. It ranks on Season OPR and pit sheets until real match data arrives.
Get pit sheets in early
The more teams that fill in a robot sheet, the more there is to read on the morning of the event. This event shows how many teams have one. You can print pit flyers ahead of time and bring them, or point your event coordinator at pit codes. See QR pit scouting.
