How does QR pit scouting work?

Last verified October 18, 2026

Each team fills in one short robot sheet about itself by scanning a QR code at its pit, and every answer lands on one shared report for the event that anyone can read. The QR comes from either the event's coordinator (a pit code) or a team that printed pit flyers.

The idea

Pit scouting usually means sending people round every pit to ask the same questions. Here, each team answers once about its own robot: drivetrain, autos, endgame, a photo. Those answers go on the event's shared report, next to each team's rank and OPR. You find it on the event page under the Scouting tab.

There are two kinds of QR code, and they behave differently.

Pit codes (from the coordinator)

If whoever runs the event set up pit scouting, every team gets its own pit code. Scan it and you land on a page titled with your team number and event. Fill in the sheet and tap Save robot sheet. You don't need an account.

A few things to know:

  • Anyone who scans your pit code can edit your sheet. If someone changes your answers, ask the event organizer for a new code.
  • If you're signed in and on that team, you can tap Verify Team to verify it. Scanning your own pit's code counts as proof.
  • If your team isn't on Robolyst yet, Claim Team sets it up already verified.
  • Bad signal at the venue? Your answers are kept on your phone and sent once you're back online. A robot photo can't be kept offline, so attach it again later.

Want your event to have pit codes? Send your coordinator to robolyst.org/for-events.

Pit flyers (printed by your team)

No coordinator setup? Your team can cover the event itself.

  1. Open your event under Scouting.
  2. In the Get the whole event scouted panel, click the print button. It counts the teams still missing, for example Print 12 pit flyers.
  3. Tape each page up at that team's pit.

You get a PDF with one page per team that doesn't have a sheet yet. If the coordinator already gave every team a pit code, the panel tells you there's nothing to print. Each flyer opens a public form for that team. It asks for a verification checkbox and no account.

You can also fill in a sheet for another team yourself: on This event, the Pit sheets panel lists teams with no sheet. Tap a number to open their form.

A sheet filled in by someone other than the team is marked on the report. It never overwrites what a team wrote about itself. If a sheet already exists, a flyer entry only fills in questions that were left blank. The team is notified, and saving from their own pit code replaces it.

Your own robot sheet

The Our robot tab in Scouting holds your team's sheet for the whole season. It shows on your public team page and on the report of every event you attend, unless that event already has a sheet for your team (from a pit code or a flyer). Saving it needs the Build picklists & scouting notes permission.
