How do RSVP modes work?

Last verified October 18, 2026

Every event has one of three RSVP modes. No RSVP asks nothing, Can't make it only assumes everyone is coming and lets people opt out with a reason, and Full RSVP asks for going, maybe or not going.

You need: Manage meetings permission to change an event's mode

The three modes

ModeWhat members seeWhat a "no" means
No RSVPNothing to answer. Everyone is expected. Not applicable
Can't make it only"You're expected", with a box for why they can't make itAlways counts as excused
Full RSVPI'm coming, Maybe and Can't make itAbsent or excused, depending on a team setting

In Can't make it only, a reason is required. Members who change their mind click I can make it after all. Only people with Manage meetings and the member themselves see the reason.

Defaults by event type

When you create an event, the mode starts from its type. You can change it before saving.

Change an event's mode

  1. Open Schedule and click the event.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Under RSVP, pick No RSVP, Can't make it only or Full RSVP, then Save.

For a weekly meeting, the mode is set on the series. Edit the first meeting in the series to change it for every week. A single week shows the series' mode with a note to edit the series.

Switching modes doesn't delete anyone's answers. They're hidden while the new mode doesn't use them and come back if you switch back.

Calendars brought in from outside

Events from a synced calendar take their mode from the calendar's RSVP on every event setting in the calendar subscription settings. You can still change the mode on one imported event from its panel. See How do I import another calendar feed?

Answering for someone else

Before the register opens, people with Manage meetings can set a member's answer from the event's Attendance list. The member sees who answered for them. A member's Unavailable times also count as "can't make it" for any event they cover, until the member answers themselves.

RSVPs close when the event ends, or when it's cancelled.
