How do I hand over ownership when I graduate?
Last verified October 18, 2026
Give the next person the Owner role from the Members page. Once they're an Owner, either leave the team yourself or ask them to take Owner off you. A team can have more than one Owner, and always keeps at least one.
You need: Owner
Before you start
The person taking over needs a Robolyst account and has to be on the team. Placeholders can't hold roles. If they're still a placeholder, invite them first and wait for them to accept.
Only an Owner can make someone else an Owner.
Make them an Owner
- Open Members.
- On their row, click the Add chip next to their roles.
- Pick Owner.
They get a notification saying they now hold the role. You're both Owners at this point, which is a safe place to pause if you want to hand things over gradually.
Step back
You can't take the Owner role off yourself. Pick one of these instead:
- Stay on as alumni. Ask the new Owner to click your Owner chip on Members to take it away. If you'd like to be listed as alumni, they can also change your Classification to Alumni when editing your row.
- Leave the team. Click your team name at the top of the sidebar, then Leave Team. This works once another Owner exists.
Things that carry over
Your tasks, documentation entries, expenses and other work stay with the team after you step back or leave.
Things to check before you go
- Verification: once a team is verified, it stays verified. Nobody needs to verify again.
- Fiscal account: if your team has a fiscal account, check who the cardholders and contacts are under Finance, since those are tied to people.
- Roles you made: the new Owner can see and change every role in Settings, then Roles.
If the only Owner is gone
Robolyst won't let the last Owner leave a team or delete their account while other people are still on it. If your only Owner graduated without handing over and can't be reached, contact support through /contact.
