What can each role do?

Last verified October 18, 2026

Every new team starts with three roles. Owner can do everything, Manager can run most of the team day to day, and Default is what everyone holds. Teams can change Manager and Default, so check Settings, then Roles, for what yours actually allow.

The three starting roles

  • Owner holds every permission, always. Only an Owner can change another Owner, and a team always keeps at least one.
  • Manager is a starter role with most permissions. It's an ordinary role, so your team can rename it, change it or delete it.
  • Default is held by everyone on the team. Nobody can be added to it or removed from it, but its permissions can be edited.

Roles add together. Someone with Default and Manager can do everything either one allows.

The Administrator permission

Any role can be given Administrator. It grants every permission on the list, including ones added later, so treat it like handing over the keys.

Rank

Roles are ranked top to bottom in Settings, then Roles. Nobody can give out, edit or move a role at or above their own. You also can't grant a permission you don't hold yourself.

Check a role for yourself

Open Roles, pick a role and click View as. You'll see the portal with only that role's permissions.
