What does our public site show about members?
Last verified October 18, 2026
By default a member appears on the team's public site with their first name, photo and grade, but not their last name. Each person controls this under the Public site tab when editing their row on Members.
What's published by default
Four switches decide what a public team page or website shows about each person:
| Switch | Default | When off |
|---|---|---|
| Appear on the public team site at all | On | No name, photo or role is published anywhere on it |
| Show last name | Off | First name only |
| Show photo | On | Initials only |
| Show grade | On | Grade stays private |
A member's title, classification and fun fact are shown when they appear. Archived members stay on the public site.
Anyone on the internet can read a published team site. If you're under 18, check with a parent or guardian before turning anything on.
Change your own settings
- Open Members and click the pencil on your own row.
- Choose the Public site tab.
- Tick or untick the switches. Changes save automatically.
Once you've saved your own choices, they're yours alone. Nobody else on the team can change them, whatever their role.
Setting them for someone else
Someone with Edit member profiles can set these for a member who hasn't chosen yet, and for placeholders, who have no account to choose with. The form reminds them to only share what that person agreed to. A member who later saves their own choices takes over.
Photos
Uploading a headshot on the Profile tab switches Show photo on, since uploading it is taken as wanting it published. If Show photo is off, the photo stays uploaded but hidden. You can remove it with Remove current photo.
How it's enforced
Hidden details are removed before the page is sent, so a hidden last name or grade can't be dug out of the page source.
The Public site tab only appears for FTC teams. On the Members list, an eye-off icon marks anyone who isn't on the public site.
